Why this tool exists when AI chatbots can describe the Pomodoro Technique: An AI chatbot can explain the method, but it cannot actually run a real-time countdown with sound alerts, track which task you are working on, persist your daily statistics across days, or post a browser notification when 25 minutes are up. The Pomodoro method requires precise timing, persistent state, and interruption alerts - things only a real tool can do. AI explanations of the technique are fine; the actual timer needs to be a tool.

How to use the Pomodoro Timer

Pick a task from the right-side task list (or add a new one) and press Start. The timer runs a 25-minute focus session. When the bell rings, take a 5-minute break. After four focus sessions, you earn a longer 15-minute break. The active task earns one pomodoro for every completed focus session, so you can see at a glance how much focused time each piece of work received.

Below the timer, the statistics panel shows your pomodoros today, focus time today, your current day streak, and the all-time total. The weekly bar chart shows focus minutes for the last seven days - the orange bar marks today. All numbers are calculated locally from your localStorage, so nothing leaves your device.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Pomodoro Technique?

Francesco Cirillo created the Pomodoro Technique in the late 1980s, which is an uncomplicated way to manage time. Working in 25-minute pomodoros with 5-minute breaks is the standard practice. Every four pomodoros, you take a longer break of 15 to 30 minutes. This method is advantageous as it prevents your mind from being stale, and the time constraints on each interval encourage you to stay focused and avoid delaying tasks.

Is this Pomodoro timer really free?

This service is completely free, with no strings attached. You won't need to sign up or create an account, and there's no paywall to limit your access. Every feature is available to use right away. Most Pomodoro apps will lock certain features, like task management or statistics, behind a paywall. Not here, though - you can just open the page and get started with a Pomodoro session.

Will my tasks and statistics be saved?

Yes. All your tasks, completed pomodoros, and daily statistics are stored locally in your browser via localStorage. Nothing is uploaded to any server. If you clear your browser data, the stats will be reset - so export the JSON backup occasionally if you want a long-term archive.

Can I customize the work and break durations?

Yes. Open the settings panel to change the work duration (1-90 minutes), short break (1-30 minutes), long break (5-60 minutes), and the number of sessions before a long break (2-10). All settings are saved automatically and persist across sessions.

Why does this tool exist when AI chatbots can tell me to use the Pomodoro Technique?

An AI chatbot can suggest the technique and explain it, but it cannot actually run a real-time countdown with sound notifications, track which task you are working on, save your statistics across days, or pop a browser notification when 25 minutes are up. The Pomodoro method requires precise timing, persistent state, and interruption alerts - things only a real tool can do. AI descriptions of the technique are fine; the actual timer needs to be a tool.

Will the timer work if I switch tabs?

The countdown continues in the background using the browser's setInterval engine, so the timer keeps accurate time even when you switch tabs. Audio alerts still play when the session ends. For browser notifications, you can grant the site permission once and the system will ping you even when the tab is in the background.

Can I add multiple tasks and track which one I am working on?

Yes. Add any number of tasks and mark one as the active task. Each completed pomodoro is attributed to the active task, so you can see how many pomodoros you spent on each piece of work. When you finish a task, mark it done and pick the next one.

What are the streak and weekly statistics?

The streak is the number of consecutive days you completed at least one pomodoro. The weekly view shows a 7-day bar chart of focus time per day. The total shows your all-time pomodoros and focus hours. All calculations are local - no data ever leaves your device.
