Why AI Cannot Test Your Speakers
An AI chatbot has no speaker, no headphone and no sound card, so it cannot send a real tone to your hardware or hear what comes out. Whether a speaker is wired with reversed channels, has a rattling driver, or is missing its treble are physical facts only a real audio test can reveal. If music sounds thin, one side is silent, or new speakers arrived with no bass, a chatbot can only repeat generic advice about drivers and settings. This tool generates actual tones through the Web Audio API, routes them to the left and right channels of your real output device, runs a full 20Hz-20kHz sweep, tests bass, treble, balance and polarity, and gives you a deterministic pass/fail answer plus an exportable report for support or a store.

How the Speaker Test Works
- Pick your output device. The list shows every audio output the browser can see, including built-in speakers, USB headphones and Bluetooth devices. If your browser supports it, tones route to the chosen device.
- Check the channels. Play Left, then Right, then Both. With headphones you will instantly know if the channels are swapped or if one side is silent.
- Run the frequency sweep. The tool sweeps from 20 Hz to 20 kHz on both channels while a live spectrum shows the current frequency. Listen for even loudness and note any rattle, buzz or sudden drop.
- Test each band. Use the bass, mid and treble presets to isolate the range that sounds wrong, then adjust or inspect accordingly.
- Run the guided test to walk through every check in order, review the diagnosis, and export the report.
Why is only one speaker making sound?
Check the Left and Right buttons: if sound always comes from the same side, either a channel is dead, the balance is panned all the way to one side, or a cable/connection is loose. Swap the speakers to rule out the source, then check your operating system's balance setting. If the fault follows the speaker, the driver is the problem.
Why do my speakers rattle during the bass test?
A rattle usually means something loose: a screw on the speaker, a grille that is not seated, or an object sitting on or near the cabinet. Check those first. If the rattle only happens at high volume or very low frequencies, you may simply be pushing the speaker past its limit, so lower the volume before suspecting damage.
What if the frequency sweep sounds uneven or has a dip?
Small dips are normal because room acoustics and speaker placement change what you hear. A dramatic, sudden drop in one band, or a band that sounds completely missing, points to a driver problem or a crossover fault. Move your listening position and try again; if the dip stays, the speaker likely needs service.
Does this work with Bluetooth speakers and headphones?
Yes. Bluetooth devices appear in the output device list. Keep in mind that Bluetooth adds a little latency and can compress audio, which is normal. For the most accurate channel and phase checks, wired headphones are the best reference.
Why do I hear sound even when I click Left?
Most laptop and phone speakers are mono, so the left and right buttons both play through the same physical speaker. On a mono device you will not hear a difference between channels. Use stereo speakers or headphones for a meaningful left/right test.
Can I check my hearing range with this tool?
Yes, indirectly. Use the custom tone generator, start at 1 kHz, and slowly raise the frequency. Most adults stop hearing somewhere between 14 kHz and 17 kHz, which is normal age-related change rather than damage. Keep the volume moderate and do not test loud tones for long periods.
Is my audio sent anywhere during the test?
No. Every tone is synthesized in your browser and played directly to your speakers or headphones. Nothing is recorded, uploaded or stored. Open the network panel and you will see no audio data leaving your device.
Why is there no device picker option on my browser?
The device picker relies on the enumerateDevices API and setSinkId support. Some browsers only allow switching output devices on pages served over HTTPS and may still hide the list. The test still works: it always plays through your current default output device.
