About this tool

Ever wondered how well two sun signs really pair up, but tired of toy love calculators that just roll random numbers? This zodiac compatibility calculator scores any pair of signs from fixed astrological rules, so the same pair always gets the same answer. Type two birth dates, get a match score with a breakdown across love, communication, values and trust, plus a plain-English note on how the two elements meet. Or jump into the 12x12 matrix and see all 78 pairings at a glance. Everything runs in your browser - no signup, nothing leaves your screen.

A 78-pair grid, two cusp-aware date detections and a breakdown you can put a finger on: a chatbot answers this question with a fresh made-up number every time, and cannot hand you a clickable matrix of 78 pairings in one screen.

How it works

The score is not a dice roll. Each of the 12 signs has an element (fire, earth, air or water), a modality (cardinal, fixed or mutable) and a polarity. The calculator measures the angular distance between the two signs, applies the classic aspect weights that working astrologers use (trine smooth, sextile friendly, square tense, quincunx awkward, opposition magnetic), then adds the element interaction and the modality of each sign. The total becomes the percentage. Every input you can make is explained on screen, so you see why one pairing scored 92 and another scored 51 instead of trusting a mystery number.

Frequently asked questions

Where does the compatibility percentage come from?

The number comes from the three classic building blocks of sign compatibility: element interaction, aspect (the angle between the two signs) and modality. Same pair, same score, every time - it is a rule-based estimate, not a verdict about a real relationship.

What is a cusp date and why does the tool flag mine?

Within a day of a sign boundary, astrologers disagree because the exact moment the sun crosses the line shifts a little year to year. The tool flags those days as cusp dates and shows the nearest boundary so you can decide, and you can always override the detected sign with a dropdown.

Is any data recorded?

No. The tool runs entirely in your browser. Dates and names are never sent to a server and nothing is stored.

What are aspects in simple terms?

Aspects describe the angle between two signs around the wheel. Signs three apart (120 degrees) share an element and get the best scores. Signs three spots away the other way (90 degrees, a square) create the most friction. Six spots apart is an opposition: strong pull, but the two signs want opposite things.

Why can a chatbot give a different percentage every time?

No model can compute that honestly. Any AI chatbot asked for a compatibility percentage makes up a different number each time. This calculator uses the same fixed rules on every run and shows the component scores, so a repeat visit gets a repeat answer.

What should I actually use this for?

Entertainment and self-reflection. Sun sign compatibility is one small part of a full astrological comparison, which would also weigh moon, Venus and Mars positions. For a serious reading, use this as a starting point and see it as one signal, not an answer.

What does it mean when two signs share an element or modality?

Both partners are then of the same kind: a shared element usually plays out smoothly, while a shared modality can lock horns - two fixed signs both refuse to back down. The breakdown lines show which pattern is at work for the pair you entered.

Which element combinations clash the most?

Fire feeds air and air spreads fire, while earth holds water and water nourishes earth. Those combinations start friendly. Fire meets water and the clash burns; air meets earth and both get frustrated. Fire with earth and air with water sit in between, working harder for less payoff.
