Upload a fillable PDF form to see its fields here. If the PDF has no form fields, try a different file or use our PDF Editor to add text annotations.

What This Tool Does

Drop any fillable PDF — job applications, government forms, tax documents, medical intake forms, school enrollment, lease agreements, contracts — and fill it out in your browser. We detect text fields, checkboxes, radio buttons, dropdowns, and option lists automatically. Type your answers, click Save Filled PDF, and download the completed document.

Why PDF Form Filler Beats Asking an AI Chatbot

AI text models cannot fill real PDF form fields. They can describe a form or rewrite what you might write in a text box, but they cannot parse PDF AcroForm structure, write field values into the right field, generate a binary PDF with the answers embedded in the correct coordinates, or save a file your employer or tax authority will accept. Even ChatGPT with vision reads forms but does not produce a filled PDF. This tool uses pdf-lib to write field values into the actual PDF binary — output is identical in structure to a hand-filled PDF.

How It Works

  1. Drop or browse a fillable PDF (one with form fields)
  2. We detect every text field, checkbox, radio button, and dropdown
  3. Type, tick, or select your answers — fields are grouped by page
  4. Optional: enable Flatten form to lock fields in place (recommended before signing)
  5. Click Save Filled PDF to download the completed document

Privacy & Limits

  • 100% client-side: Your PDF is processed by pdf-lib in your browser. Zero uploads, zero server. Open DevTools → Network and you will see no outbound requests carrying your document.
  • Unlimited use: No signup, no daily caps, no file-size-based paywall beyond browser memory.
  • Draft auto-save: Your answers are saved to localStorage keyed by file hash so you can refresh without losing work.
  • No watermark added: Output is identical in structure to a hand-filled PDF.

Field Types Supported

  • Text fields — single-line input, auto-sizes
  • Multiline text — textarea for long answers
  • Checkboxes — tick on/off, preserves multi-checkbox groups
  • Radio buttons — single choice per group, all options shown
  • Dropdown menus — pick from predefined options
  • Option lists — multi-select dropdown
  • Signature fields — pre-filled text placeholder (for visual signature placement only)

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this PDF form filler really free?

Yes, 100% free with no signup, no daily limits, and no watermark. Unlike Smallpdf (2 tasks/day on free tier), iLovePDF (upload + daily caps), Adobe Acrobat ($240/year subscription), PDFgear (limited features), DocFly (signup required), or HiPDF (upload required), this tool has zero restrictions and runs entirely in your browser.

Does my PDF get uploaded to a server?

No. Everything runs locally in your browser using the pdf-lib JavaScript library. You can verify by opening DevTools (F12 → Network tab) — you will see zero outbound requests carrying your document data. This is essential for tax forms, medical records, legal documents, and any other sensitive PDFs.

What if my PDF does not have fillable form fields?

If you drop a PDF that contains no AcroForm fields (e.g., a scanned image or a flat PDF), we will tell you no fields were detected. For those files, use our PDF Editor to add text annotations, or our PDF Aloud Reader to listen to the contents, or our Image to Text OCR to extract any text first.

What does "Flatten form after filling" do?

Flattening converts every filled form field into static content on the page — the field becomes read-only text or graphics that cannot be edited in any PDF reader. This is recommended before signing or sharing finalized documents so recipients cannot alter your answers.

Are my filled answers saved between visits?

Yes — your answers are auto-saved to localStorage after every change, keyed by a hash of the PDF file. If you reload the page or come back tomorrow, click Restore Draft to bring back your answers for that exact PDF. Clearing browser storage or using a different browser will clear drafts. Drafts are stored only on your device, never uploaded.

Can I sign a PDF after filling the form?

This tool fills form fields. For drawing an electronic signature, use our Signature Maker or PDF Signer tool, which lets you draw or type a signature and place it on any PDF.

What size PDF can I fill?

Up to 50MB in your browser. The PDF must contain AcroForm fields (interactive form fields). PDFs created by Microsoft Word's "Restrict Editing" or Adobe Acrobat's form builder will work. Pure scanned image PDFs do not have form fields and cannot be filled this way.

Does the output preserve the original PDF layout?

Yes. pdf-lib writes your field values into the existing field objects — no font is re-rendered, no layout is recalculated. The output is structurally identical to the original except for the values you entered. Fonts, images, page dimensions, and visual layout are preserved exactly.

Will this work on a phone or tablet?

Yes. The form fills cleanly on any modern mobile browser. The layout adapts to narrow screens, and touch-friendly inputs replace dropdowns where appropriate.
